Frequently asked questions

Answers about FileAI — including how it proves its own.

How citations work, what happens to your documents, and why FileAI would rather say “I don't know” than invent an answer.

The basics

What is FileAI?
FileAI is a private workspace where you upload documents — contracts, reports, research, policies — and ask questions about them. Every answer is grounded in the files you select and cites the exact passage it came from, so you can verify it rather than take it on faith.
How is FileAI different from ChatGPT or a generic chatbot?
A general chatbot answers from its training and will happily improvise. FileAI answers only from the documents you choose, attaches a numbered citation to every claim, and tells you when your files don't contain the answer instead of guessing.
What file formats does FileAI support?
PDF, DOCX, PPTX, TXT, MD, JSON, and HTML.
Can I ask a question across several documents at once?
Yes. Select a folder of documents and ask a single question — FileAI retrieves across all of them and tells you which file each part of the answer came from.

Trust & accuracy

What are citations, and why do they matter?
Every document-derived claim in an answer carries a numbered citation. Clicking it opens the source file and the exact passage that was retrieved, so you can confirm the answer is real before you rely on it.
Does FileAI hallucinate or make things up?
FileAI is built to minimize that: answers are constrained to the documents you select and must cite what they claim. When your documents don't contain the answer, FileAI says so plainly instead of inventing one.
What is the difference between Fast and Deep mode?
Fast mode streams an answer in seconds — made for lookups and the many small questions of a working day. Deep mode reasons carefully across documents for comparisons and long files, and keeps working even if you close the tab.
Is FileAI a substitute for legal, medical, or professional advice?
No. FileAI helps you find and verify what your own documents say faster; it does not provide professional advice. Because every answer is cited, it is best used as a research and review aid.

Privacy & data

Is my data private? Where are my files stored?
Uploads live in private, encrypted object storage. Nothing is served from a public folder, and retrieval is scoped only to the documents you choose — never other users' files or the open internet.
Do you train AI models on my documents?
No. Your files are not used to train models unless you explicitly opt in. FileAI is a workspace, not a data funnel.
What happens when I delete a document, chat, or my account?
Deletion is real: removing a document, chat, or account also removes the provider copies — files, indexes, and conversations. Delete means delete.
Can I export my data?
Yes. You can download your chats and usage history whenever you want them.

Getting started

Is there a free plan?
Yes. You can start free with one document and no credit card — upload it, ask a question, and open your first citation before deciding on a plan.
How do I get started?
Create a workspace, upload a document, and ask it a question. Indexing runs in the background and you can watch its progress; once it's ready, every answer comes back with citations you can open.
