The basics
- What is FileAI?
- FileAI answers questions about your documents. Upload a PDF, Word or PowerPoint file, ask in plain English, and click any answer to see the passage it came from. It's built and supported by Liam Killingback in Australia.
- Why not just use ChatGPT?
- ChatGPT and other chatbots are great for writing and brainstorming. FileAI does one job: it answers from your document and shows you where. Every answer links to the passage it came from, FileAI tells you when your document doesn't cover the question, and your files are never used to train AI.
- What files can I upload?
- PDF (with selectable text), Word (DOCX), PowerPoint (PPTX), plain text (TXT), Markdown (MD), HTML and JSON. Scanned PDFs (photos of pages) aren't supported yet. On the free plan each file can be up to 20 MB.
- Can I ask about several documents at once?
- Yes. Select several files and ask one question. Each part of the answer shows which file it came from.
- Who is it for?
- Anyone who needs answers from a contract, lease, policy, paper or set of lecture slides: students, small business owners, freelancers, tenants, or someone checking an insurance policy. For specific jobs, such as an RFP in the United States or a tender pack in Australia, there are one-off checks: see the Solutions menu.
Answers and accuracy
- How do I check an answer?
- Click a source number. FileAI shows the passage it used, highlighted on the page in PDFs, so you can read it yourself.
- Can FileAI get things wrong?
- Yes, like any AI. It's set up to answer only from your documents and to say when they don't cover the question, and every answer links to its source so you can check. For anything important, read the source passage.
- What is careful mode?
- For long or complicated documents, switch from Fast to Careful above your question. A careful answer takes longer and reads more of your documents, and it keeps working if you close the tab. It's included on every plan, including Free.
- Is FileAI legal or financial advice?
- No. FileAI helps you find and understand what your documents say. It doesn't give legal, financial or procurement advice. For important decisions, talk to a qualified professional.
Privacy and your files
- Are my files used to train AI?
- No. Your files are never used to train AI. FileAI uses OpenAI's API to read your documents and write answers, and OpenAI doesn't train its models on API data.
- Where are my files stored?
- The original files are kept in private, encrypted storage (Tigris). To answer questions, their text is processed by OpenAI's API in the United States. The app runs on Fly.io in Sydney. The “Where your files go” page lists every provider.
- How do I delete my data?
- Delete a document in your workspace and FileAI deletes it from storage and from OpenAI. Delete your account in Settings and FileAI deletes your files, your chats and every copy it keeps at OpenAI.
- Can I download my data?
- Yes. In Settings you can download your chats and usage history as a file.
Plans and payments
- Is there a free plan?
- Yes: 10 documents and about 40 questions a month. No card needed.
- How much is Pro?
- US$19 a month or US$190 a year, in US dollars (USD). Pro gives you more documents and many more questions.
- What if it isn't right for me?
- Every paid plan and pack has a 14-day money-back guarantee. Email us within 14 days of a payment and we'll refund it in full, no questions asked.
- How do I cancel?
- Any time, from Settings or by emailing support@fileai.pro. You keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for.
- What does a tender pack cost?
- A$79 per tender, paid once, in Australian dollars (AUD). No subscription.
- What does a strata report check cost?
- A$29 per NSW strata report, paid once, after a free preview. We're checking a limited number of reports while we test it.
- What does an RFP compliance matrix cost?
- US$99 per RFP, paid once, after a free preview. Charged in US dollars (USD). No subscription.
- What does an HOA document check cost?
- US$39 per HOA package, paid once, after a free preview. Charged in US dollars (USD). No subscription.
